New Breed Church Statement of Faith
I. God
God is the sovereign ruler and creator of all things who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God, while being one in nature, exists in unity as three persons.
God the Father:
God the Father exists as the first person of the Godhead who sovereignly and providentially works all things according to his good and pleasing will.
God the Son:
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is the eternal Word made flesh, supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He is both God and man. He is the only Savior for the sins of the world. He is now at God’s right hand, interceding for His people and ruling as Lord over all creation. He will one day return personally and bodily.
God the Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit is eternal and dwells in every born-again believer who professes the name of Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit acts as an agent of change so that the believer can live in obedience to God’s word and will. The Holy Spirit imparts gifts to believers for the Church’s good and the gospel’s sake.
II. The Bible
The Bible is the written Word of God and is the essential, inerrant, and infallible record of God’s self-disclosure to humanity. It is inspired by God and written by men; therefore, as originally given, the Bible is free of error in all it teaches. The Bible is authoritative, guiding all Christian life, practice, and doctrine.
III. Humanity
God has created all humans—both male and female—in His image and this creation is a fixed matter of human biology, not individual choice. Humanity was created to function in relationship with God as God’s representatives on earth by exercising dominion and care over creation. By being made in God’s image, every human possesses unique dignity and worth.
IV. Sin
Through the temptation of Satan, Adam and Eve rebelled against God, resulting in humanity inheriting a corrupt nature that is in opposition to God and His divine law Humanity, therefore, chooses disobedience and rebellion against God and His holy commands. Consequently, God’s righteous response to human sin is death and eternal separation from God in hell. In addition, sin creates relational separation among humanity.
V. The Gospel
The gospel is the good news that God reconciles sinners to Himself and with one another through the finished work of Jesus Christ. Jesus took on flesh and lived the life we were supposed to live. He willingly died the death we deserved to die. He was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead on the third day. His death and resurrection satisfy the demands of God’s justice and wrath while revealing Jesus as the conquering Savior.
VI. Salvation
Salvation is God’s gracious act of reconciling sinful humanity and declaring them righteous through the work of Jesus Christ. Salvation is a gift of God received through personal faith and repentance. As a result, individuals who have placed their faith in Jesus are justified and reconciled to God to dwell eternally with God in the new heavens and new earth at Christ’s return. In addition, salvation provides the means of reconciliation with humanity.
VII. The Church
The Church is both universal and local. It is the universal body of Christ comprised of believers of every age, tribe, tongue, and nation. The Church is expressed through local congregations of believers in covenant fellowship under the earthly leadership of pastors who equip the Church by teaching the word of God and administering the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The Church exists to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ and representing His Kingdom through gospel proclamation, faithful living, and being the hands and feet of Jesus.
Baptism
Baptism is an ordinance of the Lord Jesus Christ, symbolizing the believer’s union with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection. It is properly administered by immersion upon profession of faith.
Lord’s Supper
The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance given by Christ for the remembrance of His death, the celebration of our salvation, and the expression of our unity as His body.
VIII. Marriage/Sexuality
Marriage is instituted and defined by God. Marriage is the joining of one man and one woman solely and exclusively in a covenant marriage. Sexual intimacy is a gift from God to be cherished and is reserved for the marriage relationship between one man and one woman.
